A global destination for artists and artsenthusiasts, Interlochen Center for the Arts nurtures creativitythrough five dynamic platforms: Interlochen Arts Camp, the renownedsummer arts program; Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation’s premierfine arts boarding high school; Interlochen Presents, a producer ofmore than 600 annual performances by internationally celebratedguest artists, Interlochen students, and faculty; InterlochenPublic Radio, two listener-supported, 24-hour public radio stations(classical music and news); and Interlochen College of CreativeArts, a convener for lifelong learning in the arts.The Humanities Instructor will teach a course load offive sections, either in History or Literature and Composition.Special consideration will be given to candidates able to teachcourses in African American Studies, Asian Studies, or English as aLanguage. Additional consideration will also be given to candidateswith demonstrated skill and interest in teaching students at alllevels, grades 9-12. Application Materials Required:ResumeCover LetterTranscriptTeaching Philosophy Essential Duties &Responsibilities:Creates course curriculum, course handouts,lectures, labs, presentations, and other course materials requiredto deliver course information in an understandable and interestingmanner to ensure students are engaged with the course material inorder to achieve the course learning outcomesTeaches a full load of classes in a variety ofhumanities subjectsDevelops and maintains a course page through Canvaslearning management software.Maintains up-to-date attendance and gradebookrecords.Completes timely and thorough interim and gradereports.Writes letters of recommendation for collegeadmissions.Serves as a mentor for an advisory group.Collaborates and builds relationships with fellowfaculty members.Provides office hours 4 days a week for students(minimum of 30 minutes per session) and holds scheduled eveningtutorials when needed.Attends department, division, faculty, communityand other meetings as necessary.Participates in mission oriented events likeall-school events and student performances. Experience and SkillsBachelor’s degree in Social Studies, SocialSciences, English as a Language, History, Political Science,Literature, Composition or related field required. Master’s degreea plus.Recent high school teaching experiencepreferred.Experience teaching all levels of high school (ordesire to do so) preferred.Ability to demonstrate effectiveness in creatingcourse materials (syllabus, handouts, presentations, etc) whichenhance student interest and engagement.Ability to use technology to introduce newmaterials.Background or interest in the arts is a valuableasset.
