The Administrative Assistant provides administrativesupport to the department staff, faculty, and students under thesupervision of the Department Head. The Administrative Assistantcreates, manages, and executes budget expenditures upon approval bythe department head; processes payroll and personnel documents;maintains, records, and processes departmental and college-relatedforms and reports; develops and maintains office files andcorrespondence; monitors, orders, and processes requisitions fordepartment materials and supplies; operates office equipment;schedules appointments and meetings; and assists with preparationof the annual budget. Additionally, the Administrative Assistantworks effectively in a diverse community and meets the needs ofdiverse student populations; handles a large volume of functionsand activities; follows simple and complex written and verbalinstructions; and performs other duties as assigned. The successfulcandidate must possess the ability to work efficiently with minimalsupervision and exercise discretion concerning confidentialmatters. Attention to detail and computer proficiency (spreadsheetmanagement, electronic correspondence, and word processing skills)are essential for success in this position. The position mayrequire availability to work flexible hours, including someevenings. This position reports to the Department Head, English andCommunications.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or GEDequivalency, two years secretarial experience, and demonstratedcomputer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite(including Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, etc.) in a networkedoffice setting, and internet navigation. College course work may besubstituted on a year for year basis for the required experience.Successful results of a criminal background check arerequired.Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibilityrequirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of §435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations.Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will bedeemed not qualified to hold employment in this position.
